Epic Says AI Coding Tools Fixed Decade-Old Unreal Engine Bugs

  • AI in Games
  • UGC Platforms (Roblox, Fortnite)

On Oct. 28, Epic Games executive vice president of development Marcus Wassmer confirmed that Epic engineers now use AI coding tools, including Claude Code and Codex, to build Unreal Engine, Fortnite and UEFN. He said the tools helped clear unpredictable bugs in "cooking", the step that packages game assets for each platform, which the team had been chasing for about ten years.

🎮 Pro Tip

The quiet win here is maintenance. Every studio has a backlog of old, hard-to-reproduce bugs, and pointing AI at that list first is low risk, easy to measure, and invisible to players who are wary of AI-made content.
